MV CARBON/ PETER KOLOVOS (CA)/ NATE WOOLEY + C. SPENCER YEH DUO

MV Carbon is a Brooklyn-based musician and artist. Her work frequently involves tape machines, voice, cello, analog synthesizers, field recordings, along with hand-built electronics. She has recently been developing and performing new works which utilize physical computing and sensor-controlled synthesis. She has performed nationally and internationally with her solo work as well as in collaborations at spaces including Arnolfi (UK), Issue Project Room (NYC), Lehman Maupin Gallery (NYC), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Museum of Contemporary Art (Detroit), Nefertiti Jazz Club (Sweden), PS1 Contemporary Art (NYC), Roulette (NYC), The Sage (UK), The Stone (NYC), the Tate Modern (UK), and Tesla (Berlin). Her work with the dark-wave electronic duo Metalux has releases out on a number of experimental and independent labels including 5RC and Load.

Over more than a decade Peter Kolovos has created an incredibly physical and dynamic musical language using the electric guitar. He plays music that unpredictably flows from electrified fragments of sound which fold and expand in dense layers… Rather than set harmonic or rhythmic structures, he draws form from open sequences of sound events merged and propelled by a distinct internal logic. In his music Kolovos attempts to erase the line between intent and impulse and to create sounds that are immediate and unrepeatable.

Nate Wooley has performed regularly as a trumpet player with such icons as John Zorn, Anthony Braxton, Eliane Radigue, Ken Vandermark, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, and Yoshi Wada, as well as being a collaborator with some of the brightest lights of his generation like Chris Corsano, C. Spencer Yeh, Peter Evans, and Mary Halvorson. Nate is also the curator of the Database of Recorded American Music (www.dramonline.org) and the editor-in-chief of their online quarterly journal Sound American (www.soundamerican.org ). He also runs Pleasure of the Text which releases music by composers of experimental music at the beginnings of their careers.

C. Spencer Yeh is recognized for his interdisciplinary activities and collaborations as an artist, composer, and improviser, as well as his music project Burning Star Core. Recent presentations of work include Who Wants Flowers When You're Dead at the Poor Farm Wisconsin, The String and the Mirror at Lisa Cooley NYC, Excursus IV at the ICA Philadelphia, New Humans at Bureau NYC, In Tones From Light to Dark at Performa 13, PAN_ACT at ISSUE Project Room, Brooklyn NY, the Pérez Art Museum in Miami FL, Electronic Arts Intermix in NYC, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston TX, and a Jerome Foundation Commission from Roulette Intermedium. Yeh also collaborated with Triple Canopy for their contribution to the Whitney Biennial in 2014.
